Car badly damaged in fire on M1


A car was badly damaged after catching fire while driving on the M1 Southbound.

Three fire crews, one from Castle Donington and two from Loughborough were called to the scene just after Junction 24 around 11:30 am today, Saturday August 28.

It is believed that the cause of the fire was accidental and due to a fault in the vehicle’s engine.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Services witnessed the incident after several calls for a vehicle fire on the motorway.

Upon arrival, the incident commander confirmed that a car was involved in a fire, which was then extinguished with a hose.

A spokesperson for the fire department told LeicestershireLive: “The car was badly damaged about 50 percent.”
