AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Ali Asghar Khaji, senior adviser to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, on Sunday stressed the need for efforts to find a settlement to the Syrian crisis within the framework of the Astana talks.

Speaking at a meeting in Tehran with the Russian President’s Special Envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, the Iranian Foreign Ministry official also insisted on the need to continue intra-Syrian talks in the light of the Syrian Constitutional Committee.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the reasons for regional cooperation, especially on the situation in Syria.

The Iranian official referred to Iran’s and Russia’s joint fight against terrorism in Syria, noting that the two countries must cooperate more to restore peace in Syria and help rebuild the war-affected country.

Russian officials arrived in Tehran after a visit to Damascus where they held talks with Syrian officials.

They said consultations with Iranian officials have always been helpful.
