WATCH Toprak Razgatlioglu ‘make a Marquez’ with save…

Toprak Razgatlioglu has credited training at a small go-kart track in his native Turkey with surviving the “crash” that nearly saw him crash out of the Superpole WorldSBK race at Estoril just four corners from the flag.

The defending champion was looking on track for the first win of his title defense when he erred entering the slow entry point to the uphill esses near the end of the final lap.

With the front end down, Razgatlioglu’s Yamaha skidded on its fairing but – aided by the circuit’s camber – he was able to get it back on its wheels and off again.

However, it wasn’t before a fortuitous Jonathan Rea pounced on the failing Yamaha ahead, with the Kawasaki rider jumping up front to snatch victory.

A frustrating result for Razgatlioglu just a day after taking victory in Race 1 when he was passed on the exit of the final corner and to the checkered flag by Alvaro Bautista, he also finished third in the race. 2.

Even so, he was looking on the bright side that he had at least avoided a crucial second DNF in as many rounds.

“We train with Kenan on his go-kart track, it’s a small track and I always lose the front there and try to get it back! Only this time the bike was a bit heavier!

“I always watch Marc Marquez, it’s the same style! I remember 2020 in Jerez, I tried to get the bike back but I couldn’t so I had a little crash.

“However, today I said, ‘I have to pick it up! because I fight! I’m very happy, we took good points and second is better than a crash. it was a strange weekend!
